Ever looked at someone with great skin and thought, Wow! What’s their secret? Well, we’re here to reveal their habits. And guess what? They’re really simple and anyone can do them!
Drink plenty of water
We’re sure you’ve heard your beauty therapist harp on about drinking lots of water when you’ve popped in for your facial. That’s because it’s a key factor for healthy and glowing skin! Keeping your skin hydrated by drinking 2 litres of water a day (that’s around 8 glasses) will reduce fine lines and wrinkles and make your skin feel amazing. Try it. We bet you’ll see a difference in just 2 weeks!
Helpful tip: treat yourself to a handy water bottle that you always carry with you. It acts as a physical reminder to keep drinking – you’ll reach the recommended amount in no time!
Maintain a good skincare routine
Double cleanse, exfoliate, tone, moisturise. Simple, right? Of course, you can add extra factors into your routine such as a weekly mask and serums but use this as a starting point if you find it hard to maintain.
Helpful tip: think about when you have more time – morning or evening? You only need to exfoliate once a day, so if you’re rushing around in the morning getting everything (and everyone) ready, exfoliate and pop that mask on before bed when you’ve got more time to take care of yourself.
Get enough sleep
You can literally do it in your sleep! Great news! Our skin does most of the recovery work when we’re catching some z’s. By making sure you get 7+ hours of sleep a night, you’ll reduce signs of tiredness such as a dull complexion and dark circles under the eyes. Our skin is amazing. While you’re dreaming away, skin cell renewal doubles, collagen production rises, and cell damage caused by UV rays or other environmental factors is repaired and reversed. What does this mean? Refreshed, firm and bright skin.
Helpful tip: if you’re struggling to fall asleep, try calm-inducing aromas like lavender or gentle music with deep, ambient tones to help you drift off soundly.
Don’t forget SPF
Protect your skin from damaging UV rays all year round. Yes, even in winter when it’s dull and dreary outside. Even blue light from screens can have a negative impact on our skin. SPF reduces the risk of premature ageing and age spots. Want glowing great skin? Don’t skimp on the Factor 50.
Helpful tip: keep forgetting? Find a moisturiser that has added SPF – one less step in your skincare routine to remember!
Lower your stress levels
Easy said than done sometimes, we know. We don’t want to teach you to suck eggs, but stress reduces the recovery rate of our skin by 40% and it can also cause acne, redness and inflammation. Take a breather. It doesn’t have to be long, but a few deep breaths and a little bit of mindfulness can go a long way.
Helpful tip: when feeling overwhelmed, breathe in for a count of four, hold it for four and breathe out for six. In through the nose and out through the mouth. Do this three or four times, or until you feel calmer.
There isn’t a magic potion for great, glowing skin (although there are some fabulous products out there to help) and other factors can alter how your skin is feeling such as diet, environmental triggers and lifestyle choices. However, with these five easy not-so-secret tricks, you’ll be feeling better in your skin in no time.
