The beauty industry is always evolving, with new treatments and technologies arising every year. So, what’s in store for 2022? Let’s take a look at the most talked about trends for this year.

Body treatments

For many, the start of a new year means new resolutions, goals and a focus on making positive lifestyle changes, especially after indulging a little over the holidays! Body treatments have been around for a while, but there’s a particular focus on them for 2022. Perhaps it’s because we’re moving ever closer to a sense of reclaimed normality, with the possibility of holidays abroad and activities outside of binge-watching Netflix and home DIY.

Two treatments that are popular when it comes to body contouring is CACI’s Electro Cellulite Massager (ECM). CACI has developed a body treatment that provides instant lifting and contouring of the buttocks and toning of the thighs. Not only does it improve the appearance of cellulite by breaking down fatty deposits with electro technology, but it also stimulates blood circulation and lymphatic drainage. Combined, this results in toxins being flushed away, and skin appears smoother, tighter and dimple-free. The perfect body contouring treatment for holiday preparation.

The second treatment is 3D-Lipo, a treatment that provides body contouring and fat removal. This non-surgical, non-invasive treatment is a popular alternative to liposuction. Using cavitation, ultrasound and cryo-lipolysis (fat freezing) technology, 3D-Lipo enhances your silhouette and is particularly effective in stubborn areas.

Of course, with any body treatment, we always recommend combining with a healthy diet and regular exercise to maximise the benefits you’ll receive.

Robot manicures

Could it be possible? In fact it’s happening already! Viral videos are spreading across social media platforms such as TikTok of a robot delivering the ‘perfect manicure’. Through technology that scans your nails, it applies the precise amount of varnish to each nail. However, it cannot currently provide the prep and nail care a manicurist can – which we know is incredibly important to keeping your nails looking fresh, and making your manicure last longer! So perhaps we won’t be investing in one of those machines just yet, but it goes to show how far the beauty industry has progressed when it comes to advanced technology!

Sustainable products

Sustainability is fast becoming an important factor when deciding which beauty products to buy. People want to know what’s in the product, whether it’s natural, sustainable, environmentally friendly and cruelty-free. The industry is dramatically changing with many more beauty brands thinking more ethically when it comes to skincare products and nail varnishes. Bijou prides itself on only using cruelty-free and vegan-friendly products such as Dermalogica and Jessica in our treatments and products available to purchase. Based on the trends over the past few years, the future of beauty is set to be greener and more sustainable than ever before!

Nail art

Nail art is a popular choice when you’re fancying something a little different, and the popularity of styling up your manicure doesn’t seem to be diminishing anytime soon! Seascapes, dreamy skies and sparkling galaxies are supposedly this year’s art of choice – we’re excited to see what our clients will request next!

Self-care for men

The beauty industry has been widely dominated by a female audience for decades, however we know this shouldn’t be the case. Skincare is important for everyone, and men shouldn’t be left out of the equation. The shift in self-care for men becoming more important and recognised means products designed to suit different skin-types, factoring in facial hair and the difference in texture are becoming increasingly more popular and much more widely available.

Beauty shouldn’t be biased, which is why a variety of our treatments are suitable for everyone looking for some TLC. Find out the most popular treatments for men here.

Personalisation

As a beauty therapist, it becomes quickly apparent that no person is the same when it comes to skin texture and tone. Some have an oily t-zone, some suffer from dryness or sensitivity. Others are a combination of the two. That’s why personalisation is so important. When designing a skin treatment for our clients, we spend time discussing the relevant factors surrounding skincare: such as lifestyle, skincare routine, environmental factors, emotional wellbeing and we deliver a detailed skin analysis to identify problem areas to accurately treat them.

In 2022, the beauty industry looks to be focusing in on personalisation, which we’re definitely on board with! When the world is as diverse as this one, so should our perception of skincare be.

Treating maskne

This trend may not be around forever, but it’s certainly becoming increasingly important when booking a treatment. Over the past few years, with masks being an everyday essential people outside of healthcare didn’t expect to need, we’ve encountered ‘maskne’ – acne cause by wearing a mask. This tends to affect the mouth area. Bacteria loves warm, damp places and wearing masks for long periods of time, our own breath can create this environment behind the mask. Throw in friction of the mask rubbing against our skin, breakouts can occur.

In reaction to this, the beauty industry is seeing more and more people requesting products and treatments for maskne. Regular facials, a strong skincare regime and looking after your masks with regular washing can help counteract maskne. We have a wide variety of treatments available to reduce inflammation, banish breakouts and target blemishes. If you’re suffering from maskne, speak to one of our therapists to find out the best solution for you.

Focus on the eyes

Staying with the theme of masks – it’s all about the eyes. Beauty brands have seen an increase in sales of eye products such as mascara, eyeliner and eyeshadow to accentuate the part of the face we can all see – regardless of a mask!

The beauty industry has always accommodated the eyes with lots of different treatments: brow shaping and tinting, lash lifting and tinting and lash extensions. These treatments will continue to highlight and enhance our eyes so they’re still set to be popular treatments this year too!
